Kids at the New Matamoras summer feeding site take
part in a water relay to cool down on a hot day.
WMCAP Hosts USDA Summer Food Service Program for Children and Joins Partners to Provide Weekend Meals

The Washington Morgan County Community Action Programs announces the sponsorship of the USDA Summer Food Service Program for Children. Free meals will be made available to all children 18 years of age and under or persons over 18 who are determine by a state or local public educational agency to be medically or physically disabled.

For a growing number of children, school lunch and breakfast have become principal meals of the day. During the summer months, these meals are not available and children go hungry. Studies show that children who do not receive proper nutrition over summer months begin school six months behind their peers. The summer nutrition program is an important component of school readiness and an outlet for socialization over the summer for children who are not part of any other structured summer programming.

The program will start June 10 and last until August 9. Reservations for the meals need to be made the day before by contacting the site. Free, hot meals will be served Monday through Friday at noon at the following sites:

Old New Matamoras Elementary School
1000 Stover Dr.
New Matamoras, OH
Reservation Number: (740) 373-3455

This is a partnership of the Governor's Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio's foodbanks who will partner with Summer Food Service Program sponsors, including Washington-Morgan Community Action.
